As you can see
by the photo... this abstract flower painting has a lot of
depth and texture. It was my intention, as with a lot of my
work, to bring the painting up off the canvas. In other words,
to give the painting a lot of volume.
My association
with Dutch Tulips originated when I first landed in Holland as
an 18 year old traveller from Australia. I was greeted with a
bunch of rich red tulips at Schiphol airport in
Amsterdam upon arrival. I have to admit that I had never
been a flower fan, but tulips definitely have an appeal that
makes them stand out from the rest.
With
this painting I have attempted to depict the
tulips in a fresh field somewhere in Holland. The view is from
the ground looking up at the base of the flowers...and this is
why the sky is so prominent in the painting.
