Any and All Help Needed

by Sheldon Grimshaw

I haven't read any of the testimonials yet, but feel that anyone who can renew or increase our self-esteem is a hero. Your writings have not convinced me I'm good enough to call myself an artist yet, but neither did the Internet sales either.

I do not understand if its' our upbringing or our fear of failure/ success or just the need for constant reinforcement, but this art creation and more importantly showing our work is extremely difficult. I am now reading "An Artists Way" and it seems to be helping. I will also read Carls' choice, "War of Art" by Steven Pressfield.

Anything that provides positive reinforcement for a mental slob like me is wonderful.

Carl sends me an email or two each month. I enjoy them immensely and they are always positive. He never asks for money... I look forward to all his invaluable information and can only say that once I become a viable enterprise as an artist, I will pay for his advise or maybe send him an original.

I still need to realize not everyone loves my work, just as I do not like all other art produced. So I must learn how to accept criticism gracefully, with humility and educational value.

It's difficult now, but it used to be unbearable. Listening to Carl and other writers, I realized not all criticism is bad, and sometimes it doesn't matter what others say, but only what you feel.

Thank You Carl,

God Bless, Sheldon Grimshaw

One of my mentors once told me...
by: Carl (CAKUa

One of my mentors once told me, do not be afraid of failing your way forward. Failing is a privilege that is really only exclusive to people who exercise their personal potential.

I believe it.

You say that "once you become a viable artist"?

Can I let you in on something? You already are. Essentially, viable really means, "Having the ability to grow, expand, develop".

You are doing that as an artist, correct?

You say not everyone loves your work. I would be petrified if everyone loved my work. Seriously. I love that there are critics out there who want to snarl at some of work. It's fantastic.

Most of the time, with a little investigating, and prompting from me, I discover their life is quite horrible. Only REALLY cool people buy my art.

(wink)

Get the picture I paint in my mind each and every day?

Do not forget the people who have already expressed genuine interest in your art, regardless if a sale eventuated from it or not.

As for the criticism...

It is ALL ABOUT how you interpret the messages being wired to you from people viewing your art.

If you can learn to lose the emotional attachment, and look at your art objectively, it will make a HUGE difference.

Yep, it requires some work. But not much. It's all about consistently really.

"I'm looking for people who are looking for me" is a great affirmation to believe in.

Thank you for your testimonial. I appreciate the effort you have made to contribute to the CAKUart site.

Carl
