Appreciating Art

Quite often as artists we get stifled, tied up in knots, a little apprehensive and at times overwhelmed with our own work.

One great way to get away from this type of self-absorption is to simply get out and look at the work of other artists and start appreciating art again.

By doing this you will:

  • Renew your appreciation for art in general

  • Get access to concepts, ideas and the creative journeys of other artists

  • Get outside of your own studio

  • Get outside of your own head

  • Get some fresh air (wink)

  • Realise there is a life that exists outside of your art (wink again)

Appreciating Art

So consider organising to see the next art exhibit showing in your local area. You may want to go alone and simply soak up the artwork on display in silence.

Although I always think going with a friend or partner is a great way of appreciating art because they will often bring your attention to things that you may other wise over look.

The thing is... it doesn't necessarily have to be the visual arts. You may want to consider going to watch some performing arts  - this can certainly help to re-ignite your appreciation for art in general.

So why not...

  • Get out and see a live band.

  • Consider going to your local theatre and watching a play.

  • Get out and admire some of the architecture in your local area (might be tough in some areas I do realise but worth mentioning anyway)

Sometimes simply getting in touch with nature will help to get you out of your own head and reinvigorated about art again.

The whole purpose of this is to simply get away from what you are involved in doing which can often make your feel stuck, and seek out a new way of looking, asking and wondering.

Doing this will certainly help with your goal to appreciate art again, and get you back in front on the canvas with some new creative energy.

What My Visitors Say:

"I have been dragging my feet about getting back into my art for too long. Carl thank you for your No BS answers to my frustrations. I have to admit I didn't really expect to hear anything when I filled out the survey, but when I got a personal letter from you I was blown away. Thanks again"

"Thank you so much for your personal reply. EVERYTHING you said really struck a chord and I guess on some level I already knew all the answers. You have motivated me beyond anything I have ever read, been told or taught before..."

"
Your advice has been very good... especially the part about vision and practice"

"Carl, Thank you for that thoughtful reply. I printed it out and at first look I didn't see that it was a personal response. That was the most direct honest wise interpretation of my dilemma that I have ever had the pleasure of reading..."

"What you said has really got me excited. Thanks so much for the reply (and at 4 in the morning too!) I am really going to work hard at starting where I left off so long ago..."
