Landmarks
reveal a lot about a country's culture and its past. Many
landmarks, natural or man made, are much like books… in that;
books reveal a lot about the ideals and values of a society of
people who lived before we came along.
Uluru, or
commonly know as Ayres rock, in the Northern Territory
Australia, is an excellent example of a significant famous
landmark.
The rock has
major significance among Australia's aboriginal
community, and it is in fact written into the aboriginal
dreamtime as having significant tribal beliefs attached to it.
Landmarks are
tangible proof that history is not a myth, and that we
came from somewhere and we are going somewhere. In the case of
man-made landmarks, they are proof of mankind's more recent
historical achievements.
Ayres rock,
like most major landmarks, inspires wonders and intrigue.
It is kind of a geographical logo.
Ayres Rock
was once described by Earnest Giles as "Australia's
remarkable pebble".
