Ebay Listings

Image hosting is something
you need to consider when it comes to selling your art
on ebay. The most obvious reason is because; having a
series of images on your ebay listing allows your buyer
to get a more detailed view of your artwork.
Hosting your own images on your own web host platform is
probably the best option, but if you don't currently
rent your own server space, then here are a few options
you may wish to consider.
There
are a variety of options available for you to use,
including
ebay's image hosting service.
Ebay
allow you to upload your first photo for free. Any
additional images will incur a fee of $0.15 for a
standard image and $0.75 for a large (Super size) image.
Although the cost of image hosting on ebay can add up
quite quickly, particular if you have quite a few
listings running each week, it can actually be more
convenient to keep your images and listings in the one
location online, rather than having them separated for
the sake of using a free service.
On
top of that, ebay have a 99.9% uptime guarantee when it
comes to image hosting. So your images will always be
displayed without any hiccups.
But
if you don't like the price of ebay's image hosting
fees, then why not consider your options elsewhere.
There are plenty to choose from. Many are free and some
will charge you a small fee.
Free
Hosting Services
Photobucket.com offers free eBay image hosting.
In fact, go check out their eBay tutorials and
learn more about their auction image hosting:
Photobucket tutorials
Photo
bucket provide a premium service that allows you to
upload 1MB. Like most image hosting platforms,
photobucket provide both a free and paid service. It
allows you to easily host and link your images and
videos to your auction sites, and social networks.
Another service is
Auctiva.
Auctiva is essentially a web based auction management
platform that allows you to host your images for free.
They
are directly associated with ebay, which means they even
cater for ebay users in terms of providing listing
templates, automatically re-optimize your photos as you
upload them (you still have to resize your photos before
uploading) and can even make your listing process easier
and faster.

Optimisation Software Tools
One
thing your viewer does not like as they arrive at your
auction listing, and that is waiting for your images to
download.
The
problem for you is that if it takes too long for your
images to download, chances are your potential bidder is
not going to hang around. Therefore, you are losing
traffic due a simple image technicality that could have
otherwise been easily fixed from the start.
So
what you'll need to do it to optimise your images so
they load quickly and keep your visitors satisfied.
Don't
fall into the trap of believing that the bigger your art
images are the more impact they'll have. If you really
want your potential bidder to get a close up view of
your work, then take a series of close ups and even
micro shots so they'll get a good indication of the
paint texture and colour.
Note: If you are not sure how to go about
photographing your art, then head over and read my
web page that discusses this topic.
To
begin with, you should start by re-sizing your images.
Irfanview is a service you may want to consider
using to resize your images. I do all of my resizing and
optimising with Adobe Photoshop. I encourage you to
learn how to use Photoshop if you don't know how to
already. There is a bit of a learning curve to begin
with, but it is a fantastic tool to have in your art
business toolbox.
When
you are ready to optimise your images (so they'll
download quicker for your visitors) try using
Image optimiser or
ReaCompressor.

Hosting Tip
When
you have resized and optimised your images and are ready
to upload them to your chosen hosting service, make sure
to do some housekeeping.
Ensure that your files are organised (titled) and are
ready to receive the corresponding images you have ready
for uploading.
That
way when you begin to upload each painting image and
it’s close up shots, you can simply upload them straight
into the appropriate file. You'll avoid having to search
through all of your images trying to find "that" photo
every time time you create a new listing.
