An Inspiring Vision
How To Create a Vision Statement

In order to create an inspiring vision you have to be able to communicate and define your true purpose.

creating an Inspiring VisionIt could simply be, "To stay on course and encourage progress, growth and success in others" for example.

But it has to be translated in a manner that describes you - is more representative of who you are and who you hope to become as an artist and member of your community, state or country.

As you can appreciate, I am a merely using examples here. It's not my place to provide you with a personalised example, only a general idea of how to create your vision.

Make your vision an extension of who you are and/or wish to become.

My mentor once told me, "It's not about you anymore; it's about what you can do for others". That motto has served me well in terms of actually producing my own art and providing a guiding light for my fellow artists.

Some artists would argue that art is all about self discovery.

Therefore; how can you be thinking about what you can do for others through a piece of art when you are trying to focus on your own needs?

The thing is though, it's not the product that I am referring to in this example; it is the idea, purpose and fuel that drove you to produce the painting.

It's the passion that is derived through thinking in a certain way… like in this case, what you can do for others… that produces the work for you.

Nobody Can Do What You Do The Way You Do It

Believe in that quote of mine above without …too much ego (wink)…and you'll really add power to your vision.

I have always believed that your inspiring vision is also about building a culture that is driven by purpose. That purpose is really what keeps you passionate. It is also what keeps people within your culture passionate and moving forward.

One of the hardest parts of putting your vision together is avoiding the day to day "busy" work that we have to attend to… and to avoid letting it wear us down and spoil our belief and faith in ourselves.

It's the "routine" of life that often creates the most doubt. We have to get away from the "gossip going on by the water cooler" despite looking like an outcast amongst the ones dedicated to mediocrity.

But if we do that, then the folk we are really looking for, the ones who will help build that tiny "little idea" that we keep alive in our head (despite how many times we thought that we should just let it go- sigh) will help to make it a reality.

One thing you simply must avoid is letting your past control your future.

Additionally, you must learn to ignore whatever you lack and focus on using what you've got.

You'll trigger BIG movement by simply acting on your ideas, no matter how great, bad or mediocre they may appear in your mind.

Liberate yourself - it’s the GREATEST tactic an artist can ever apply to his or her DESIRE to create and contribute. Extend yourself into others. Build that inspiring vision one step at time, little by little, day by day.

And MOST importantly... as I always tell my artist friends - Don't wait for permission from some authority to do what you want to do. Don't wait for validation or approval. You are your own authority when it comes to your vision.

Create an inspiring vision... and make it happen!

What My Visitors Say:

"I have been dragging my feet about getting back into my art for too long. Carl thank you for your No BS answers to my frustrations. I have to admit I didn't really expect to hear anything when I filled out the survey, but when I got a personal letter from you I was blown away. Thanks again"

"Thank you so much for your personal reply. EVERYTHING you said really struck a chord and I guess on some level I already knew all the answers. You have motivated me beyond anything I have ever read, been told or taught before..."

"
Your advice has been very good... especially the part about vision and practice"

"Carl, Thank you for that thoughtful reply. I printed it out and at first look I didn't see that it was a personal response. That was the most direct honest wise interpretation of my dilemma that I have ever had the pleasure of reading..."

"What you said has really got me excited. Thanks so much for the reply (and at 4 in the morning too!) I am really going to work hard at starting where I left off so long ago..."
