Selling Art On Ebay

Selling Art On Ebay Using a Marketing Mindset

Selling art on ebay can be a big challenge for the unknown artist. But that's not to say there is no hope of making sales.

The idea of getting good money for your art on ebay probably isn't the right thing to be focusing on – at least not in the beginning.

A high percentage of art sold by self representing artists on ebay receive final bids of under $100.

Additionally, like any market place, it takes time and a determination to persevere before you start experiencing frequent sales or begin to see your prices starting to rise.

In many respects, you stand a better chance with selling art on ebay if you can build and market your own "brand".

Becoming An Ebay Art Seller

So while you are building a reputation as an ebay art seller, I suggest you approach ebay from another marketing angle. After all, despite what you think of ebay, it is a market place that has people looking for art - among many other things - with credit card in hand... so to speak.

Therefore, regardless of what you expect monetarily, your art is somewhat in the right place. It is not being subjected to the "Exposure for the Sake of Exposure" syndrome.

You are being provided with a "targeted" market of buyers.

So my suggestion is; provide quality art that is smaller in size - therefore easy to ship, and list your art with an "absolute minimum" starting price in order to cover your costs.

This could well increase your chances of making regular sales and more importantly… increase your chances of securing qualified LEADS.

Then you'll have clients you can begin building a relationship with online (email) and offline (direct mail outs) communication.

Selling Your Art On Ebay Requires Grit

There is no easy way in becoming successful at selling art on ebay. But with sheer determination, along with sticking to your niche and building your brand... in time, you stand a good chance of claiming your piece of the marketplace.

You may have heard all those statistics about ebay being home to millions of buyers looking for art on a daily basis.

While this may be true, there is still quite a lot of research you need to do in order to discover where you fit in, and how you may be able to capture some attention.

Avoid going into selling your art on ebay blindly. Do some investigating. Seek out other artists that are producing similar type work to yours. Take note of their recent sales. Study how they present their art in their listings.

You need to keep an eye on the ebay art marketplace. This will give you a clear picture of what you are up against.

One of the best tools for researching ebay sales history and competition is Terapeak.

If you have the desire and determination, ebay can help in building your client base while you make some sales along the way.
