Why Quitting Sucks

Are
you feeling as though you want to quit? Has the idea that maybe
you aren't an artist after all started drifting around in your
thoughts?
Don't quit
just yet though. Here is why quitting
sucks…
If you quit
you'll start believing that quitting is acceptable in other
aspects of your life.
The whole
idea of quitting enters our mind because we neglected to
stabilise our thinking.
We have
allowed inconsistent thoughts to run riot in our mind.
This
eventually creates a pattern, and as a result we accept
that things aren't working out as we had hoped.
If things do
not work out as we had hoped then perhaps the actual idea of
what we wanted wasn't really clear from the start.
In other
words… if you are too random and vague as to what your project
is, then it's kind of hard for you to actualise a real result.
Then what
tends to happen is...
Your
work becomes scattered, you lose momentum and then you simply
lose faith in what you are doing. This is where the whole idea
of quitting comes about. This is why quitting sucks, because it
becomes an easy option - all because we didn't have a basic plan
of priorities and goals.
The funny
thing is though…it is probably easier to battle on than to
quit, despite it not appearing that way.
Give
Yourself Just 20 Seconds
and You'll
See Why Quitting Sucks
Here is
something worth trying…
Open your
mind just a little bit… it can make a huge difference. Just
for twenty seconds ponder the idea that things can actually work
out as you had hoped. Just twenty seconds… are you worth
twenty seconds?
Yes of
course.
Then for
twenty seconds, think about nothing else but the whole idea of
what you set out to achieve actually happening.
Can you see
the end result? If you can; then you have something to work
from. If you can keep the end in mind, you are half way
there.
It doesn't
matter if the result is simply getting a painting finished. It
doesn't matter if it is a goal to sell fifteen paintings this
year.
It doesn't matter if it is to generate enough cash to
re-stock your studio...
It doesn't
matter if it's to become better at your craft. It doesn’t
matter if it is to become more business savvy.
It doesn't even
matter if your "goal in mind" is simply none of these
things I've mentioned and just a simple desire to
keep working without regards to acclaim or sales.
It doesn't
matter what your goal "should be". What matters is
what it could be, then being able to hold the end result in
your mind long enough to start building the foundation back
to where you have to start and make it all come together.
Other
Reasons Why Quitting Sucks
I was once
told that quite often people lose faith in their pursuit
to be successful at what they love because they allowed other
people to steal their focus and/or they simply did not
dedicate enough time to their endeavour.
Mind you, it
isn't hard to get distracted if you let it happen. I once found
myself at a social event pre-occupied with why I wasn't actually
progressing as well as I would have liked in my business.
Then it
suddenly dawned on me that perhaps I was attending too many
social events and not using my time to actually get some
work done.
So... this is
another reason why quitting sucks, because in some instances, we
have simply allowed other people and circumstances to take
control and spoil our ambition.
And it's not
that people are doing this to us intentionally, it's just
that we simply did not get our priorities in order.
Sometimes our
priorities are all messed up and as a result we don't have a
system in place to allocate sufficient time to develop our
craft and build our businesses.
But what if
you are struggling to find the time? Well… the hard truth is
that in order to do what you really want, you have to find time
outside of the standard 9 to 5 living. For example, it's 4am on
a Sunday morning as I write this. So…I don't know how else to
explain how you must find time than to give you that example
(wink).
In other
words ask yourself: "How big is your desire?"
If your
desire is big enough, you will find the time required to get
what you want and need to get done.
Something
To Consider
Here
are a few concepts to reinforce why quitting sucks and how
quitting can be avoided…
- Avoid
thinking that real progress (success) is directly associated
to materialism.
- Remember
that long-term projects require a regular input of ideas,
commitment and patience.
- Try
to recognise bad habits early before they become patterns of
acceptance. This includes the wrong kind of thinking, the
wrong kind of spending and wrong use of your time.
- Keep
doing what challenges you in order to get better at it.
- Visit
this site often (sign up for the
newsletter) to maintain the
idea that it is possible for you to succeed at what you love.
When
Quitting Doesn't Suck
The only time
that quitting is okay, is if you discover your heart is not
actually in it.
If you
realise that you do not have a genuine love for what you do or
are involved in then quitting is not actually quitting at all.
It is simply being true to your self and those around you by no
longer prolonging your involvement in that area of your life.
